Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships provide an exciting opportunity for those students who are looking to start their career in the workplace whilst still gaining more qualifications.
An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and qualifications - and get paid. You are an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an apprenticeship you will have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career. There are over 1500 different apprenticeship programmes you could follow.
It can take between one and 6 years to complete an apprenticeship depending on which one you choose, what level it is and your previous experience. If you start an apprenticeship at 16 you will be working towards a Level 2 or Level 3, also known as an Intermediate or Advanced apprenticeship. At 18 or above you could be working towards a Higher apprenticeship at Level 4, 5, 6 or 7, which is equivalent to a foundation degree or above, or working towards a Degree apprenticeship at Level 6 and 7, which is equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships. The week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. The website allows students and parents/guardians to participate with live events or to watch sessions on demand.

As well as doing your own searches for apprenticeship vacancies you can also apply to local colleges and training providers for their apprenticeship programmes - they can help you with finding a position, as you will need to find an employer to employ you to be able to follow an apprenticeship pathway.
