In order to book oracy skills and raise students’ confidence in public, the English department have been working with groups in Years 7 and 8 in the last few weeks of term.  They spent the day working through a range of tasks designed to calm their nerves, help them plan and, ultimately, deliver a well written, confident speech.  Students from these year groups have also had the opportunity to take part in two literacy competitions: Hardspell (Yr 7) and Eggheads (Yr 8).  These provide them with an opportunity to complete tasks in front of their peers and earn points for their houses.  In a world driven by communication, we hope that these sessions will equip our young people with the confidence and skills they will need for life.
